Chicken Shawarma Tacos with Tzatziki Sauce: A Culinary Voyage

Craving the bright flavors of Mediterranean cuisine but don't want to break your low carb goals? These Chicken Shawarma Tacos are the perfect fusion of Mediterranean and Mexican, all wrapped up in a low carb taco shell that will leave you satisfied and guilt-free!


Ingredients:


For the Chicken Shawarma:


2 lbs of boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts

2-3 tablespoons of shawarma rub (see recipe below)

1 tablespoon of olive oil


For the Shawarma Rub:


1 tablespoon ground coriander

1 tablespoon ground turmeric

1 tablespoon ground cumin

1 tablespoon ground paprika

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon ground ginger

Salt and pepper to taste

For the Tzatziki Sauce:


1 cup Greek yogurt

1 cucumber, deseeded and finely grated

2 cloves garlic, finely minced

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1 tablespoon fresh dill, chopped

Salt and pepper to taste


For the Pico De Gallo:


3 medium tomatoes, diced

1 small red onion, diced

1 jalapeno, deseeded and finely chopped

1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped

Juice of 1 lime

Salt and pepper to taste

Additional Ingredients:


Low-carb taco shells

Fresh avocado slices

Instructions:


Make the Shawarma Rub: Mix all the shawarma rub ingredients together in a small bowl.


Prepare the Chicken: Pat the chicken dry and rub the Shawarma spice mix all over, ensuring it's well coated. If you have time, let it marinate in the fridge for 1-2 hours.


Cook the Chicken: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook for 7-10 minutes on each side, until the chicken is golden brown and fully cooked. Once cooked, let it rest for a few minutes and then slice it into thin strips.


Prepare the Tzatziki Sauce: While the chicken is cooking, make the tzatziki sauce. Combine the Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, minced garlic, lemon juice, and chopped dill in a bowl. Season with salt and pepper. Mix until well combined.


Make the Pico De Gallo: Combine the diced tomatoes, diced onion, chopped jalapeno, chopped cilantro, lime juice, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Stir until well combined.


Assemble the Tacos: Warm the low-carb taco shells according to the package instructions. Add a layer of the sliced chicken, followed by a generous spoonful of the Pico De Gallo, a dollop of Tzatziki sauce, and a few slices of fresh avocado.


Serve: Enjoy your Chicken Shawarma Tacos immediately while still warm!
